In just over a week, MMA lightweight Cody Moorman (0-1) will face fellow Canadian Luke McKay (1-1) inside the Saturday Night Fights ring at SNF 13 on May 13 in Regina, Sask.
Moorman hasn’t fought since a 2014 bout in the now-defunct Maximum Fighting Championship — his only professional bout to date — which resulted in a submission loss. Moorman chose to take just over three years off from competing to rehab injuries, change up his fight camp, and grow as a mixed martial artist.
“Since fighting for the MFC back in 2014 I’ve taken some time off working on fixing some old injuries and joined a new gym,” Moorman said. “Everything has been coming together great and I haven’t felt this good in years so I decided to pursue a fight once again after being inspired by all the talented young blood coming up through the gym at the Modern Martial Arts Center in Saskatoon.”
Moorman knows his opponent, McKay, scored “Fight of the Night” honours in his last fight with SNF last November, and expects a similar result later this month.
“I feel it’s a great match up with Luke because his last fight was a hard fought battle and those kind of fights are what really excite me,” he said. “I’m ready for anything in that ring as I’m sure my opponent is as well, so I’m hoping we’ll be able to bring some fireworks for the fans on May 13.”
